Sangria with hot sauce topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 2 large lemons
- 2 large limes
- 2 large oranges
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 bottle of Malbec wine
- 1/3 cup brandy
- 1/3 cup Triple Sec
- 1-2 tsp original hot sauce
- 1 liter of soda, ice cold
Preparation:
- Using a vegetable peeler, remove a thin layer of zest from the lemons, limes, and oranges. It's okay to remove some of the white pith. You should end up with about 1 cup of citrus zest.
- Juice the lemons, limes, and oranges and combine the juice and zest in a medium saucepan. Add granulated sugar. Bring to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Let the citrus syrup steep for 30 minutes, then strain it through a fine sieve and refrigerate.
- While the syrup is cooling, prepare the red wine base. Pour the bottle of red wine into a large pitcher, then add the triple sec, brandy, and citrus syrup. Stir well.
- Add 1 teaspoon of Texas Pete Hotter hot sauce to the sangria base and stir well. Now's a good time to taste to see if the drink is hot enough for your taste. Add another teaspoon of sauce if you like it hotter. Keep the sangria base and soda separately in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- Serve the sangria chilled in a 60 ml shot glass. Mix 2 shots of sangria base with 1 shot of club soda and serve immediately. The drink can be served well chilled in a shot glass or over ice, like traditional sangria.
