Bratwurst sausages with cabbage in a frying pan

Ingredients:

  • 0.9 kg bratwurst sausages (about 10 pcs.)
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup apple juice
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 340 gr. fresh coleslaw mix
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced

Preparation:

  1. Place a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add vegetable oil and heat until shimmering.
  2. Carefully place the sausages in the pan and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, 6-8 minutes. Add the apple juice and reduce the heat to medium. Cover the pan with a lid and cook until the sausages are cooked through, about 10 more minutes. Remove them and set them aside, reserving any juices and fat in the pan.
  3. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Add the coleslaw, apple cider vinegar, cumin, and red pepper flakes, season with salt and pepper, and stir. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the kale wilts, about 5 more minutes. Add the sliced ​​apples and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Return the sausages to the pan and serve.
